Artist Insight with Erick Ramirez
We sat down with Ian (@R4S) to ask him some question about his background with photography, what gear he uses, favorite shoot locations and much more.
Which camera do you use?
I currently shoot with a Canon 6D, over all great entry level full frame dslr.
Do you prefer to use a tripod, or freehand?
I love using a tripod when the time is necessary, especially for sunrises at the beach in Florida. I love capturing the motion of the waves. Freehand is also a technique I use to capture people in the moment
What are some of your favorite locations to shoot?
I spend most of my time shooting at the beach and state parks due to my love for nature.
What time of day do your prefer to shoot, night or day?
I prefer shooting during the day only if it is overcast and gloomy. However, I love sunsets and sunrises, so dusk is also a favorite
What brought you into photography?
What brought me into photography is actually watching other people's work, and I know I probably said this over and over again, but I just love sunsets and sunrises.
How long do you spend editing a photo?
It's really depends on the photo and how I'm feeling at the time of editing, usually about thirty minutes. I have brought out some day shots that have made them look gloomy and dark.
Which program(s) do you use for editing?
I use Lightroom and Photoshop CC. Highly recommended!
Do you have any advice for someone getting into photography?
If photography is something that inspires you to get out of your house, then do it! Shoot anything that your eye sees and eventually you will find your niche. There is evolution in photography and you will always be learning and meeting new people along the way and most importantly, have fun!
What type of images do you think your presets are best suited for?
My presets are mostly used for nature shots. Such as dusk or magic hour sunsets/sunrises, moody days, and golden hour.
Do you have any tips or tricks for users of your presets?
Don't just add the preset on the image and be done with it. Play with the exposure, temperature, and color primaries.
Your best tip for post-processing an image.
Hopefully have your computers screen at full brightness and post-process in the dark as if you were in a dark room.
What inspired you to get involved in the AOV community?
The AOV community is just overall awesome with the amount of talented photographers. They inspire and teach everyone from novice to pro photographers.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I'm based in South Florida, eventually wanting to move to the West Coast. I want my photography to blend in with my studies of psychology and hopefully have an impact in the community.
