“There is endless inspiration surrounding me every day.” That statement is matter of fact for Eric Ward (@littlecoal) who isn’t surrounded by mountain ranges, coastlines or a major metropolitan city. @littlecoal resides in the Northwest of Ohio, and even though his rise to visual prominence has and will provide him opportunities to shoot any cityscape or coastline he’d imagine he reminds us that no matter where we are, it’s the endless adventures with the ones we love that fulfill the innate “desire to find beauty in the ordinary.”
#ArtOfVisuals is honored to release 4 exclusive images from Eric Ward @littlecoal, the artist behind the lens. With each click, and story we hope you are as inspired as we are. We encourage you to visit the @littlecoal library to let us know your favorites throughout the day. More than anything else though, we hope that you stay visually inspired and find the beauty in what you perceive as ordinary.
“Take a moment to tell someone in your life how much they matter. Those conversations will be the most meaningful of your day.”
"They promised each other, no matter how big they grew, they would always be friends." It’s a line from an improvised dinosaur bedtime story @littlecoal told one of his (3) children. The first time he created art from a shutter was in high school when he spent rolls of film to familiarize himself with the manifestation of light. That dormant curiosity emerged 3-4 years after @littlecoal discovered instagram and the creative community here.
When we asked @littlecoal who inspired his art he shared a snippet of what motivates him “..the moments of wonder I feel witnessing His beauty in nature around me.” Eric is also inspired by photographers like @trevlee @jasonmpeterson @jordanherschel @neighborhoodfilm @gothamkid and @jnsilva, but outside of Instagram, his children and wife inspire him everyday. Nowadays he shoots and edits everything on his #iphone6plus using #snapseed, #vscocam and #faded.
When we asked @littlecoal what advice he has for aspiring photographers he blessed us with this beautiful snippet that emphasizes the cycle of inspiring self by teaching others. “Shoot…a lot. Study different styles to see what elements resonate with you and then begin to find your own style. At the end of the day, though…shoot, a lot. Ask questions and then share what you’ve learned with others. I’m an elementary school teacher, so my daily life is all about sharing knowledge and encouraging others to push themselves. Teach someone else your techniques and not only will they thank you for it, but it will force you to push yourself into new areas of creativity.”
“I love nature photography and playing with the scale of the human form within a natural scene. I’m a sucker for a good silhouette, so the golden hour often is a theme in my feed.” The feed is truly majestic, a melange of inspired clicks of the shutter. Still, @littlecoal envisions a future trip to #Iceland, inspired by the incredible art his friends created when they went. A pilgrimage to Switzerland as well, a city where a good deal of his family is from. “It would be incredibly meaningful to have the opportunity to visit and see the country with my own eyes.” We look forward to seeing the art @littlecoal shares with us through this geographical, and visual journey that finds the divine in the ordinary.
We’d like to thank @littlecoal for blessing us with these exclusive clicks of the shutter manifested through the #artofvisuals. We hope that you’re visually inspired and look forward to sharing our next edition of #behindthelens.
“The Art of Visuals is the simple, yet profound ability to capture a moment, as witnessed or imagined by you, and share the experience with others. Sharing your art is the beginning of the relationship. It’s you opening yourself up to others and giving them a personal glimpse of how you see the world. Having an opportunity to share something that you’re passionate about with others is an incredible blessing and one of which I will never take for granted.”
